meaning of eid ul azha
The
second largest festival of Muslims Eid ul Azha (Eid al-Adha) pays tribute to
the second successful test of the prophet Ibrahim - sacrificing his son Ismail
as per the direction of Allah! However, at the last moment, Allah replaced
Ismail with a ram, also stressing Ismail's obedience to the will of God.
Muslims
observe this event by slaughtering animals (mostly sheep or goats) from which
they share meat with needy people, as a symbol of charity and generosity. This
is a holiday of merriment and feasting and, of course, most importantly, spiritual
reflection.
